I EMBEDDED THIS SPECIMEN IN POLYESTER RESIN USING A (NEW "35 YEARS AGO") METHOD I DISCOVERED AND DESIGNED FOR EMBEDDING PROPERLY PREPARED SPECIMENS IN A SINGLE CASTING WHILE CONTROLLING EXOTHERMIC HEAT RELEASE SO THE HEAT DID NOT RUIN IT OR BURN IT UP. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL METHODS EMBEDDED PREVIOUSLY CAST SPECIMENS BY MIXING CATALYST IN A SMALL AMOUNT OF RESIN THEN POURING THE CATALIZED RESIN SO THAT A LAYER ONE FOURTH TO LESS THAN A HALF INCH DEEP WAS CREATED FOR EACH POURING. THIS METHOD OF CREATING AN EMBEDDED SPECIMEN WAS VERY TEDIOUS AND TOOK A LOT OF TIME. THE SPECIMEN ALSO HAD LIMITED USEABILITY. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- THIS POURING OF A THIN LAYER KEPT THE EXOTHERMIC CHEMICAL REACTION FROM RELEASING SO MUCH HEAT THAT THE SPECIMEN WAS DESTROYED. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL SUCH PREVIOUS SPECIMEN EMBEDMENTS HAD SERIOUS DRAWBACKS. THE LAYERING (ONE LAYER THEN ANOTHER ANOTHER UNTIL THE ENTIRE SPECIMEN WAS EMBEDDED.) THIS LAYERING CAUSED VISUAL DISTORTION WHEN LOOKING AT THE SPECIMEN OR ESPECIALLY WHEN TRYING TO LOOK AT IT UNDER MAGNIFICATION. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- THE NEW METHOD ALLOWS THE ENTIRE SPECIMEN TO BE EMBEDDED IN A SINGLE CASTING UP TO 10 TIMES AS THICK WHILE CONTROLLING THE AMOUNT OF HEAT RELEASED. Like my wasp it can be carried around by the kids , dropped , played with and learned from. ------------------------------------------------------------------ NEW RESEARCH AQUASITION New perspectives can be gained into such as the metamorphus of catapillars into adult moths and show various levels of development , day by day. By first taking samples of cacooned moth larvae that are of varios ages and then preparing them in solutions of increasing alcohal concentrations and epoxy concentrations and adding stains at different points in the dilution process, since these stains are attracted to specific tissues travel to these specific tissues and stain them so the level of development of each tissue type of each age group this will help to answer questions about what becomes what etc.etc.etc.etc. Another magic trick is to embed a series of catapillars of each age group , properly prepared, in sequences by day number in about 1 inch of resin. Then cutting the block so that each specimen is laying beside the next by date like these letters (IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII) A PREPARED SPECIMEN LIKE THIS COULD SHOW THE PROGRESSION DAY BY DAY FROM A CATAPILLAR TO A BUTTERFLY ON THE ****INSIDE.**** EACH SPECIMEN WOULD IF PROPERLY PREPARED WITH STAINS AND EMBEDDED IN THE FINAL POLYESTER PROPERLY CURED REVEAL DIFFERENT STAGES IN EACH SPECIMEN THAT WOULD SHOW WHAT WAS GOING ON INSIDE THE CATAPILLAR/MOTH. HOW WOULD THE HEART FORM AND WHAT DID IT COME FROM. IN ONE SPECIMEN I PREPARED I FOUND THAT EVERYTHING IN THE LARVAE HAD DISSOLVED INTO ONE SEEMINGLY HOMOGENOUS MASS AND BY NOT HAVING THE MONEY OR TIME I HAVE NOT RESOLVED WHAT HAPPENED NEXT??????
