Joseph is the organizer and founder of Englewood's 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration. The Mayor and Council designated June 19th as “Juneteenth Day” in the City of Englewood. Juneteenth was first observed over 130 years ago on June 19, 1865 when General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas with news that the Civil War had ended and that the enslaved were free. June 15-17 there will be a carnival @ Depot Square Friday from 4:00pm – 9:00pm: Saturday 1:00pm – 9:00pm and Sunday 12:00noon – 9:00pm. Juneteenth Social Event to be held Friday, June 15, 2012 at Club 201, corner of Palisades Ave & Armory St, Englewood, NJ, 9:00 pm-1:00 am, Buffet and DJ, $20 donation. Saturday parade and ceremony at the monument located on Palisades & Tenafly Road beginning at 10am followed by a festival and carnival at Depot Square, 1 Demerest Ave. Englewood. Music, entertainment, food, vendors and carnival rides will be available for all to enjoy.
